Terms of Service
Last updated November 1, 2026
These Terms govern your use of Better Text Sho (the "Service"), a chat-based personal assistance service operated by Moguu Co., Ltd. ("we", "us", "Sho"). By sending us a message on WhatsApp, LINE, Instagram or any other channel, or by paying for a task, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
Plain-English note: We tried to write this so a tired person at 1am can understand it. The short boxes like this one are summaries. The full text is what counts.
1. What the Service is
Better Text Sho is a human assistance service. You message us in English; a bilingual member of our team answers questions, makes phone calls in Japanese on your behalf, interprets, researches, and handles practical tasks in Japan. We are a concierge, not a travel agency, not a law firm, not a medical provider, and not a party to any booking or contract we help you arrange.
2. Free questions and paid tasks
- Questions are free. General questions answered from our own knowledge cost nothing, with no limit.
- Tasks are paid. Anything that requires us to make a phone call, do research, interpret live, or otherwise work on your behalf is a paid task. We will always tell you the price before starting, and nothing is charged until you say yes.
- Current prices are shown on our website and in chat. Prices are in Japanese yen and include tax unless stated otherwise. We may change prices at any time, but a price quoted to you for a specific task is the price you pay.
3. Payment
Paid tasks are normally paid in advance by card through a secure payment link (processed by Stripe). We do not see or store your card number. In urgent situations (for example a lost wallet) we may, at our discretion, start work first and send the payment link afterwards. Payment is due when the link is sent. Tips are entirely optional.
4. "No fix, no fee"
If we cannot complete a task, you pay nothing, and any advance payment is refunded in full. For clarity:
- A reservation is complete when the venue confirms a booking in your name for the date, time and party size you asked for (or an alternative you accepted).
- A call or inquiry is complete when the other party has answered and we have relayed their answer to you. The content of their answer (for example "fully booked", "we can't do that") does not make the task incomplete.
- A "handle it" task is complete when the outcome we agreed on in chat has been reached, or when we have done everything that can reasonably be done and reported back.
- We are not responsible for a venue, clinic, company or official changing its mind, making an error, or treating you differently from what they told us.
Plain-English note: If Sho calls the restaurant and they say no, the call still happened and counts as done. If Sho can't get through at all, you don't pay.
5. Refunds and cancellations
- If you cancel a task before we have started it, you receive a full refund.
- If you cancel after we have started (for example after a call has been placed), the fee is due.
- Tasks we cannot complete are refunded under Section 4.
- Refunds go back to the original payment method and may take 5–10 business days to appear.
- Cancellation fees charged by a venue (for example a restaurant no-show fee) are between you and the venue.
6. What we will not do
We will decline, and may end a conversation, if a request involves:
- anything illegal, or that helps someone avoid the law;
- legal advice or representation, including negotiating a dispute or settlement on your behalf. We can relay what you say, as an interpreter, and we can introduce you to a licensed lawyer, free of charge. We are not a law firm;
- medical advice or diagnosis. We can help you find and contact a clinic. We are not medical professionals. In an emergency call 119 (ambulance/fire) or 110 (police) first;
- impersonating you or anyone else, providing false information to officials, or deceiving a third party;
- locating, contacting or obtaining information about a private individual without their consent;
- harassment, threats, or anything we consider unsafe for you, for us, or for a third party;
- any request where the person asking appears to be under 18 and the request is not appropriate for a minor.
7. Your responsibilities
- Give us accurate information. A booking made with the wrong name or date because of information you gave us still counts as complete.
- Show up for bookings we make for you, or tell us in time to cancel. Venues remember.
- Treat our team with basic courtesy. We may refuse service to anyone who is abusive.
- You are responsible for anything a third party charges you (meals, fares, fees, deposits).
8. Limits of our responsibility
We work carefully, but we are relaying information from third parties and acting on what you tell us. To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- our total liability for any task is limited to the amount you paid us for that task;
- we are not liable for indirect losses such as missed flights, lost enjoyment, or the cost of alternative arrangements;
- we are not liable for the acts, omissions, prices, quality or safety of any venue, clinic, company, driver or official we contact on your behalf.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under Japanese consumer law.
9. Hours and response times
Our stated hours and target response times are commitments we take seriously, but they are targets, not guarantees. If we are unable to respond within our stated time, you may cancel a task that has not yet started for a full refund.
10. Privacy
How we handle your information is explained in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The date at the top shows the current version. Changes apply to tasks ordered after the change; a task already paid for is governed by the Terms in force when you paid.
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. If something goes wrong, please message us first; we would much rather fix it than argue about it. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court as the court of first instance. This does not affect any mandatory consumer protections you have under the law of your country of residence.
